AGREEMENT
Submitting an Article or a work of art to THE ARTS Journal:
Upon acceptance of your submission for publication in The Arts Journal, the following conditions will apply:
In order to protect material published, we request that authors assign the rights of copyright and related rights to The Arts Forum Inc in respect of the articles, works of art and creative works accepted for publication in The Arts Journal.
The legal term of the copyright shall be two calendar years commencing the first day of the month and year of publication shown on the Journal in which your work appears. The Arts Forum Inc, its Directors and its Secretary, and The Arts Journal, its Editorial and Advisory Boards, its Distributors, Stockists or other agents will not accept liability for plagiarism. Any such liability will revert to the author of the paper or work of art in question.
In the case of creative work ,
the legal term of the Copyright Agreement shall be six(6) months
commencing the first day of the month and year of publication shown in
the Journal in which your work appears.
This assignment of copyright includes the right of The Arts Forum Inc to publish your work in all forms, including electronic and digital forms. You shall retain the right to use the substance of said work in lectures, press releases and reviews and after the copyright term you may publish your work in any other forum provided you acknowledge its prior publication in The Arts Journal.
The assignment of copyright also includes the right of The Arts Forum to use any abstract and/or highlights and/or any visual images from your paper or work for promotional or other purposes related to the circulation of the Journal which includes posting such material on the Website of The Arts Forum Inc., Distributors’s Catalogues, Flyers, Postcards and such materials that will promote the Journal.
The Arts Journal reserves the right to make such editorial changes as may be necessary to render the article suitable for publication. The Arts Journal reserves the right not to publish your work for any reason whatsoever. In such instance, the copyright will revert to the author of the work.
Necessary written permission from the relevant copyright owner or agents must be submitted to The Arts Forum Inc in respect of any text, illustration, or other material appearing in your work that is not your original work. References must be clearly cited in your Article acknowledging work that is not your original work or idea.
You guarantee that, apart from any such third party copyright material included in your Article, the Article is your original work and cannot be construed as plagiarizing any other published work and that your Article has not been published elsewhere without your notifying The Arts Forum Inc of such fact.
Papers must be no longer than 5,000 words and all endnotes must be gathered at the end of the Manuscript (and not at the foot of each page) and should conform to accepted styles and conventions for academic writing in the discipline.
You guarantee that your Article or creative work submitted contains no statement or inference that may be deemed abusive, defamatory, libelous, obscene, fraudulent; that it in no way infringes the rights of others, and that it can in no way be deemed unlawful or treasonable or in violation of the laws of the Guyana jurisdiction. The Arts Journal and The Arts Forum Inc will not be responsible for any legal action resulting from the contents of any Manuscript or work of art and will refer such action to the author of the Manuscript or work.
Except in the cases of published work, where you use the names of individuals or groups, you guarantee that you have been given permission from such individuals or groups to use their names in your Article and, further, that their names and identities have been altered/disguised so as to render them unidentifiable by the public readership if they so expressly desire.
If the Article or work has been prepared jointly with other authors, you guarantee that you have been authorized by all co-authors to sign this Agreement on their behalf, and to agree on their behalf to the order of names appearing as authors.
Proofreading and final clarification of the Article or work before publication will be directed to the sole author or the principal author (in the case of co-authorship).
One complimentary copy of the issue in which your article or work appears will be sent to the principal author of Article or work.
Should your paper not appear in the Journal for reasons of space or any other decision of the Editorial Board of the Arts Journal even though you have submitted the Copyright Agreement, the rights of your paper or work will revert to you immediately and a fresh Agreement would be required should your work be accepted for a subsequent issue of the Journal without prejudice. The Copyright Agreement does not bind The Arts Journal to publish your work but it becomes binding when the work is actually published.
